Trisha's contribution

This weekend has been extremely busy. I was not able to even glance at my project. Friday and Saturday we had to go to friend's places for dinner. Today morning I realized I don't have my fabric scissor any more cause I broke it few days back. Most probably I will have to rush to Walmart or Michaels tomorrow and get new scissor.

In the meantime I had promised my daughter that she could make a contribution to my blog. She could write about anything she wanted. As a 3rd grader she wants to be a scientist who studies  prehistoric Earth. Even though I knew it, for her satisfaction I googled it and the right term for the scientist is Paleontologist. I must say that I am relieved to hear that because last year she wanted to be a hair salonist (her words not mine).

So here it is: Trisha's first contribution.

Scientists say that the human life began in Africa.I will tell you the 6 species of the human life:

1) The Australopithecus family was not known for anything, but did make a living by hunting small animals, climbing trees to get fruit, and drinking water from a little lake.

2)The Homo Erectus family was known for making hand-made tools like axes and hammers. They made it with rock.

3) The Homo Hablis family was known for making the first fire. So, they could cook their food.

4) The Homo Sapien family made cave art.Scientists found most of them in Italy. They also made their coats and clothes out of a mammouths fur.

5) Cavemen were just like the Homo Sapien family except their clothes were made out of jaguar fur. They also made wooden clubs.

6.)The final specie is us.Humans.We plant vegatables and fruit and work and go to school.

Those were the 6 species of the human life!

First Day

Since this was the first day,  the thing that was the hardest to do was to stop using my laptop. I just did not want to. I was spending a lot of time just browsing and not really doing anything. I think I must have logged on to hotmail and Facebook atleast 30 times just wasting my time and as usual procrastinating. I am sure I am not alone ......what do you think????

Finally I had to mentally kick myself in the a___ and get going. I went down to the basement where RC is and inspected the condition of the cushions. I decided to cut up the fabric of the seat cushion to see if I could use the pad. To my relief the seat pad was in a good condition. So I decided I will use the same pad and proceeded to strip off all the fabric from the pad.

The back cushion however was going to be a problem because that was stuffed with polyster batting. So I decided to leave it alone at this point and concentrate on tackling the seat cushion first.

I then looked for the right fabric. I have a collection of fabrics stored in my basement for future use. Whenever I go to Walmart or Jo-Ann Fabric & Crafts I will buy fabric even if I don't need them. I love fabrics, they inspire me....that is just till I am in the store and once I buy them, I forget about them. To make long story short, I found this beautiful upholstery fabric. Don't know if you can see it in the picture, it is red (my favorite color) and golden in color. It has a hint of olive in the gold. It has a horizontal ribbed texture which I think is really cool.

So basically that is all I did today. I will try to make more effort tomorrow and during the weekend.

A note to anyone following this blog, please feel free to write down your opinions and suggestions. I really need them at this point.

The Rocking Chair Project.

Last week, as I was exercising in my basement, I saw my rocking chair (I'll call it RC)... all alone in a corner looking very desolate and dirty. I felt bad for RC almost like I would feel bad for a person. RC had seen better days. It was a gift from my husband during my second pregnancy four years ago.

RC proved to be a very good and comforting friend to me. My baby had reflux problems and I had to hold her upright after every feeding for atleast 30 minutes. I was able to do that because of dear RC. During the early months, I and my baby spent more time on the chair than on our bed or the crib. Even though RC is not that old, it looks like it has aged several years. I thought it will be a perfect time to give it a new look. So there it is.....my first project:

Upholstering the Rocking Chair and the Ottoman...

I have uploaded an image of the chair below. I hope I will be able to successfully restore it within a month. Wish me good luck.
